Medieval Made Modern
As a branding curator, I rarely encounter projects that so elegantly translate deep heritage into modern systems. Hymn’s process reads like archaeological design, rooted in eight hundred years of castle history. Each decision was calibrated for screens and signage. The palette revives medieval pigments, with heraldic names that feel both scholarly and fresh. A custom typeface channels stone carved letterforms, while modular grids make the system digitally fluent. This work balances reverence and practicality, producing an identity that honors the past, while functioning effortlessly in contemporary environments. The project reads like a careful restoration of visual memory, and curatorial rigor.
This identity includes playful medieval inspired emojis, conceived as if carved into the castle walls. It keeps the familiar castle silhouette as a recognition bridge for locals and visitors. Every element traces back to on site discoveries, making the design feel inevitable and true. NewGlyph collaboration yielded a typeface that balances medieval calligraphic cues with modern digital clarity. For brand professionals, this case offers a masterclass in research led identity, sensitive execution, and playful restraint.
