Factory Floor to Typeface, A Brompton Revival
As a branding curator, I celebrate Studio Blackburn’s clear, respectful refresh of Brompton’s iconic identity. They resisted unnecessary change, instead amplifying what already made the brand beloved. Their bespoke Brompton Slab unifies global communications, while honoring the original logotype. Crucially, the team went to the Greenford factory, and anchored the system in real craft. Oversized metal letters photographed on the assembly line feel authentic, not staged. This tangible approach gives the new identity credibility across retail, digital, and editorial touchpoints. Colour choice, motion rules, and the phrase Life Unfolded amplify narrative and product promise.
This case is a masterclass in balancing heritage and system thinking for global growth. Studio Blackburn solved real operational problems, like inconsistent logotype usage across markets and channels. Partnering with Sam White to craft the typeface ensured legibility and continuity across languages. The motion system, inspired by the bike’s final flick, gives UI and editorial work kinetic coherence. It is rare to see craftsmanship scaled into an identity with such humility and conviction.
