Civic Wayfinding Craft
As a branding curator, I admire Silo’s restrained, highly integrated spatial approach at Antwerp headquarters today. Their wayfinding respects brutalist materials, aligning typography and signage with raw concrete planes, subtly and with quiet restraint. The system maps civic circulation clearly, guiding staff, guests, and delivery teams across levels. Custom pictograms and blade signs feel engineered, minimal, and legible from afar. This project teaches how signage can belong to architecture, not compete with it. High contrast type and clever mounting preserve the raw surfaces, while allowing future adaptability for events and public programs.
Studio Silo framed XDGA’s tower contextually, echoing triangular windows in frosted glass patterns and panel work. Their layered mounting avoids excess drilling, enabling movable signs to adapt to public debates and exhibitions. Black metal letters and slim rails create dimensional portals that read clearly across large halls. The pictogram suite is concise, geometric, and immediately usable by all demographics. This is spatial branding at civic scale, precise and humble, teaching designers to defer to architecture.
